- Content and topics:
- The goal of this course is to provide a global introduction to mobile robotics, i.e. autonomous robots capable of moving on a prescribed area and potentially manipulating objects. We will cover the main ingredients of the mobile wheeled robots: kinematic description, perception of the environment, self-localization within this environment, and finally trajectory planning and navigation. Some parallels will be drawn with the more classical field of industrial robotics, i.e. robots working in factories. Importantly, a project will be carried out during the course. In groups of 4 people, students will have to program their own movement controller with one of our mobile robots. This will include the programming of a localization method, and a trajectory planning approach. The course will be concluded with a description of less conventional mobile robots, namely flying robots and humanoids. Connections to medical applications will be outlined, and a visit of the rehab robotics lab within the Louvain Bionics consortium will be organized.
